About project
For the Linea Rubra International Book Festival, Doubletapp’s design and development team created branding elements, a concept for the interactive platform, and a user-friendly website in just six weeks.
In 2024, Yekaterinburg hosted the Linea Rubra International Book Festival for the second time. Over the three days, the city center became home to venues featuring dozens of well-known writers, critics, and book bloggers from 7 countries. More than 48,000 attendees took part in workshops and discussions, while 156 publishers and bookstores set up sales stands.
In 2023, the organizers had relied on a placeholder webpage. However, to promote the event and attract sponsors and grant providers, they needed a full-fledged professional website. That’s why the festival team turned to Doubletapp.

Task
The organizers of the Linea Rubra festival are long-standing partners of Doubletapp. Together, we have worked on annual music events such as Ural Music Night and the New/Open Showcase Festival of contemporary music.
This time, we joined a non-music project that required convenient functionality. The client needed a new modern website, an administrative panel for content management, and technical support during the festival and between events.
The previous site was more of a placeholder, with only three pages. Since Linea Rubra is an international cultural event that attracts top contemporary writers, the client wanted a reputable, user-friendly platform with improved UX/UI.

Solution
In 2024, within just six weeks, Doubletapp designed and launched a brand-new website and admin panel, enabling content uploads and venue management. We also provided technical support during the festival.
Thanks to efficient teamwork and well-thought-out technical choices, we saved the client tens of millions of rubles, delivering the project under tight deadlines and a limited budget.

The Linea Rubra festival took place in Yekaterinburg on August 23–25, 2024. 181 events were held across 10 venues, and attendance grew by one-third compared to 2023.
The redesigned, vibrant website attracted more attention to the festival and provided visitors with easy access to schedules, activities, guest information, and venue details.
Looking ahead, the festival is set to expand further. In August 2025, the largest book festival in the Urals will feature not only a professional program — awards, fairs, workshops, and lectures — but also additional activities such as theater performances, children’s events, and live music. The venues are prepared to welcome over 50,000 guests.
Our joint plans for 2025 include developing the festival’s digital infrastructure: a convenient CRM system for managing venues and user accounts for participant and visitor registration.
Since the festival is supported by government agencies and sponsors, the website serves not only as an interactive program but also as an essential reporting tool for the organizers. This way, we help the client’s business grow and give city residents access to ever more diverse and large-scale cultural events.

Design
Development began with design. The client described the desired website sections and gave the designer full creative freedom. Designer Ilya Sorokin proposed a two-column layout: the right column contains the overall festival schedule, and the left column displays details for a selected event.
The organizers supported the idea, as this block-like layout referenced newspaper columns, book spines, and bookshelves — fitting the festival’s theme.
The final design combines card-based and block-based layouts. Serif fonts, traditionally used in print, were chosen for headings. Illustrations were given a distinctive touch with “folded corner” elements, mimicking a bookmarked page.
The site consists of 8 pages, fully adapted for tablets and mobile devices. The client provided a brand book, which we carefully interpreted to match the audience.
Users can browse the festival schedule, click on specific events, and instantly see details — speaker, topic, venue, time, and literature category — without leaving the main page. The top menu provides quick access to speaker profiles, the parallel program (excursions, performances, even a tipsy dictation event!), publishers, partners, and organizer contacts. A search tool ensures easy navigation.
Backend
We used the classic Python + Django stack, which can be deployed in under 20 hours and quickly filled with content. This efficient approach again saved the client tens of millions of rubles and allowed us to deliver the project within a small budget and limited timeframe.
We granted the client’s staff access to the admin panel so they could upload information about venues and guests themselves. Our team provided support during data entry and ensured stable website performance throughout the festival.
Frontend
The frontend was built with React, a library that enables dynamic, interactive interfaces without full page reloads — ensuring fast responsiveness. Its popularity also guarantees that the client can easily find specialists for future updates or maintenance.
We used JavaScript for interface logic and TypeScript for type safety. Next.js provided server-side rendering for SEO optimization, while Sass handled styling, ensuring clean and reliable code.
